Today's Tip for Building Character in Kids: Confidence

Boosting Self-Confidence

It's common for parents to try to foster self-esteem in their children by assuring them they are special or can achieve anything. However, research suggests that promoting self-esteem doesn't necessarily enhance academic success or genuine happiness. What seems to work better is encouraging children to believe in their own abilities and effort, teaching them that they control their outcomes.

True self-confidence stems from overcoming challenges and finding solutions independently. When parents resolve their child's problems or complete their tasks, it sends a message of doubt in the child's capabilities. Children with self-confidence understand that failure is a part of life and that they can recover from it. As parents, we need to step back and let them tackle challenges on their own!
